Pakistan’s former military ruler Pervej Musharraf, today
survived a failed bid of assassination attack on his convey. He narrowly
escaped an assassination attempt as a bomb went off shortly before his convoy
was due to pass early on Thursday, police said.
No organization has claimed a responsibility for it and no
one was injured in the blast. It was the fourth attempt on former general’s
life with three of them having occurred while he was in office.
After a self-imposed exile Musharraf has returned back to
Pakistan to fight the elections. He was barred from taking part in elections
and has been charged with several cases including treason.
Taliban has vowed to
send suicide bombers and there have security threats barring him from taking
part in court proceedings. This was only his second outing for treason hearing
in a special court.
Lately Pervej Musharraf has also applied for lifting of
travel ban imposed on him to visit his ailing mother which has been refused by
Pakistani Authorities on grounds of several pending cases.
Musharraf was the mastermind and strategic field commander
behind the Kargil infiltration.
Suspension of the Chief justice and Lal Masjid
Seize has been the most controversial steps under the tenure of Musharraf’s
rule in Pakistan.
Musharraf was brought to power through a military coup
d'état in 1999, subsequently placing the then Prime minister Nawaj Sharif under
a strict house-arrest before moving him to Adiala Jail in Punjab Province.
Incidentally Mian Nawaj Sharif is now the current prime
minister of Pakistan.
While living in his farm house on the outskirts of
Islamabad, where he has been put under house arrest, life has come to a full circle
for Pervej Musharraf- who was once branded as the most powerful person in Pakistan.
