The year 2013 has come to an end. The way things unfolded,
more than anything else, it is certainly time for some self praise. It’s time
we look at things that drove India out of a sack of hapless apathy to a bright
sunny morning which has the vigor of optimism in it.
This year has been a fabulous year for India on many fronts.
The start though wasn’t so good but yet it had in it, a yearning for
revolution.
India welcomed the year 2013 in a devastated state of mind.
On 29th December 2012, one of our own succumbed to death after putting up a
brave fight. She had experienced something that had shaken the collective
conscience of a complete nation.
Nobody believed neither expected that humanity can go down
to such level, barbarism now had a new definition.
Rapes were nothing new for India but it was too ghastly to
be ignored. We were shocked, ashamed, disgruntled. Actually, our analogy of
Mera Bharat Mahaan had taken a hit.
Nobody was requested to come, nobody was invited, yet the
human sea between India Gate and Raisana Hills swelled with every passing day.
People, howsoever high and mighty, were all shocked though the shameless
arrogance of political class had been yet again on full display. We were all
out on the roads, braving the December chill midst water cannons and hard
hitting laths. Indeed we realized we were a democracy with monarchs and
dictators. We vowed to change it.
Undeniably, No Nation is great; it needs to be made so.
Well, it took more than a movie to teach it to us. But what matters is that we
learned.
The best thing that changed in India in the year 2013 is
that we decisively moved from “We Can Not” to “Yes, We Can”. The young
generation which saw politics as an alien thing suddenly became more and more
interested in it. It was the need of time. Nevertheless, it was our uncaring
attitude towards politics and politicians that made them same- uncaring.
We may be interested or disinterested in politics but it
was, it is and will always be interested in us. It’s up to us that we captivate
that interest for five complete years or just a few months before election.
I believe, we learned not to be fooled by promises of a
laptop or a free television set, but have faith when somebody promises us low
rate electricity. India and Indian, today does not want free gifts but
certainly carve out for what they actually deserve.
India has its 50% population below the age of 25 and 65%
population below the age of 35. Yes, India is too young and contrary to worldly
rituals, is growing younger. It is expected that by 2020 the average age of an
Indian will be 29 years. Undoubtedly Youth has the power.
We are the same bunch of individuals who are equally
passionate for visiting disks on Saturdays as a temple on Tuesday or a
Thursday.
Yes, we like to party, we drink when we feel like. But that
cannot stop us from raising our voice. We may be dented and painted but no one,
not even the son of the highest constitutional authority of India has a right
to criticize us for it.
We believe in equality, we believe in freedom, we don’t
consider homosexuality a crime, we don’t like to confine our love to our
religion, we are how we are and yes we are the proud powerhouses of the India
that’s changing.
We have a voice now and we know how to raise it. We are not
confined to social media, we understand the power of our vote and we know the
significance of pressing the right button, we did and will finger out
everything that’s outrageously bad for our beloved country.
Respect and hear what Young India has to say, else we know
to shout because more than anything else we Love our India and will always
stand for it!!!
